Cognition and Learning
Covering a wide range of needs including Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) that affect one or more specific aspects of learning such as dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia.
The vast majority of students with Cognition and Learning needs are met through in-class support from the teacher with differentiated resources. However, those with significant needs are also supported by various interventions run at morning registration, lunchtimes and after College which are carefully tailored to their individual needs and/or abilities. A range of learning support intervention is available including:
- Handwriting intervention
- Reading skills
- Literacy sessions
- Numeracy sessions
- Vocabulary support.
The SEN Department also works with outside agencies, such as the Educational Psychologist, Learning and Language Support, and Speech and Language Therapy to provide meaningful support interventions for students who need something additional to help them achieve their potential.
