Candlelight Soirée
My thanks to Mrs Valu and Mr Green from the Drama Department for arranging a very special night on Friday. There were a wide range of performances demonstrating the talents of our students and the audience were treated to a really enjoyable evening.
Carol Service
We had a wonderful Carol Service last night at St Paul’s Church, Camberley. This really is one of the highlights of the College calendar and my thanks to those parents and carers who came along to support it. The Readers, the Choir and Orchestra were all of a very high standard and their efforts created a very festive atmosphere in the Church. My thanks to Miss Pugh for all the work put in to make this evening so successful.
Collingwood Mock General Election
My thanks to Mr Bunter for organising a tremendous Collingwood Mock General Election with candidates presenting in all seven year group assemblies. Their ideas, presentation skills and skilful canvassing have really raised awareness in the College of many of the national, local and College-based issues. Yesterday they met with our local MP, Rt Hon Michael Gove (other candidates were invited but the Labour candidate was taken ill on the morning and couldn’t attend). As always our students really did the College proud, with questions on Brexit, Palestine, NHS, Schooling, Working With Boris, What it’s like being an MP, Why become an MP, etc. Mr Gove even admitted taking part in a School Election as a child growing up in Aberdeen… as the Labour candidate! The result of the Collingwood Mock Election will be announced by me, as Returning Officer, at 1.50pm tomorrow with the winning candidate invited to the Full Governing Body meeting on Friday morning to present his/her winning policies!
Peer Productions Performance
My thanks to Mrs Charman for organising an excellent presentation by Peer Productions to Year 8 students this morning. Peer Productions are an award-winning education theatre charity who specialise in using drama and peer education to tackle complex social issues.
Teach to the End of Term!
Can I remind all parents/carers and students that the successful tradition at Collingwood is known as TEACH TO THE END! Experience has shown us that student behaviour is far better if all lessons towards the end of the term run as usual with all the normal expectations regarding learning and home learning. Of course, it is entirely up to staff if they wish to introduce any topical themes, but showing of videos or playing games, is not allowed!
