Careers Fair
Yesterday we held our first Careers Fair and it turned out to be an extremely successful event allowing all students (and many parents in the evening) to visit over 45 stands to discuss possible career opportunities with a variety of providers. The students and parents were all positive and there was a lovely atmosphere and buzz about the place. The Exhibitors were also very pleased with the event saying it was the best organised event they had been to and that our students were a great credit to us with excellent questions from all year groups. Many people contributed to the event but I particularly want to thank Mrs Everson, Mrs Clelland, Mr Draper and Mrs Lord for the fantastic amount of work they put in to make this such a success.
Sixth Form Activities
I am very grateful to the Sixth Form team who organised the Year 13 ‘Safe Drive’ experience last Tuesday. By all accounts this was a very instructive and useful day.
Remembrance Day – Monday 11 November - 1 minute’s Silence
As you would expect, the College observed the 1 minute of silence on Monday as part of the Remembrance Day commemoration events. I wanted to publicly thank James Alcock, a Year 11 Trumpeter, who played ‘The Last Post’ allowing many in the College to hear this moving tribute.
Shutdown of the E-mail System Over the Weekend
To support staff wellbeing and welfare we are going to trial closing down the College e-mail system every week from Friday evening at 6.00pm until Sunday evening at 6.00pm. E-mails can still be written and sent but will be saved on the system and then distributed at 6.00pm on Sunday. This action will not prevent staff from using other College systems, such as the VPN, to prepare lessons and complete other tasks but it will prevent staff receiving and accessing e-mails over the weekend which can sometimes significantly impact on their workload and reduce much needed ‘downtime’ over the weekend. Clearly our intention is to support staff wellbeing so we intend to trial this until Christmas and then evaluate whether it has been a success.
